In this perfect island paradise that you have so painstakingly and artfully created, we most certainly could hear the muses sing.
It is one thing to provide a most extraordinary experience of hospitality and quite another to create a landscape for magic. Here you have achieved them both in perfect measure. Although the eagles' nest that dominates this island remains bare during our visit, it held the promise of the eagles return…much as it now holds on to the promise of our return.
Absent the eagle, we did get visited daily by a hawk we named Yeats.
We will take the spirit of this place with us for all the rest of our lives and return often to replenish the images and hear the muses sing.
A five moon experience punctuated with the single, perfect full and glorious moon of Halloween.

Dear Andy,
What a pleasure to return to Eagle Island. Yesterday's sunrise brought the two eagles for a visit, followed by a hog coming out for a drink from the pond. A glorious sunrise followed by a thick fog bank started our day.
Thank you Andy for our extraordinary boat ride and special introduction to Queens Island! The afternoon on the water could not have been more beautiful. The weather was perfect--clouds framing the Sapelo Lighthouse and her marshes ideal for the photographer. You have given us a memory for a lifetime.
Now back to our little dream cottage in Darien to catch our breath. We will of course come back to once again share the magic of your island….soon!

Andy,
What an amazing place! We had a great time celebrating our 11th anniversary at this "little piece of paradise." Sharing this place with our son was perfect. We will definitely remember this anniversary! Chef John coming in to cook for us on Saturday was awesome. The cold weather did not defeat us or our enjoyment because of the fabulous fireplace on the deck. From the walks, fishing and crabbing to the peace and tranquility of this special place, it was truly a perfect anniversary. Thank you for making the arrangements and making it possible. We will be back!

Eight of us came from DC, NYC, Tampa, Atlanta and San Francisco to celebrate our friend Gregg's 40th birthday. What a perfect spot to connect, relax and bask in the unspoiled, quiet natural beauty of the barrier islands. In this day and age it's reassuring to know there are still places like this to enjoy and respect.
Andy--you are such an amazing host. We loved our trip to Sapelo and the low country boil. Your house is stocked with everything and we love; all the seating areas ~ especially the swinging day bed!
Thanks for everything,

Labor Day/ Full Moon Weekend, 2009
We've done a lot of traveling and must say this is one of the most unique trips we've taken! Perfect place to celebrate our 20th anniversary--with our extended family of pups.
The house is lovely, comfy, with lots of wonderful special touches. Loved the hot tub, the porches, the swinging bed. Ate until sick--almost. Oysters every which-a-way, crabs, crabs, crabs, low country boil--the best! Not to mention the Boston Butt…and I was worried about food…
Did see eagle(s)--awesome. Didn't see wild hogs or gators, which is just as well--with the dogs. Loved walks on Eagle & Mayhall. Dick loved driving the boat--lands it just like the King Air J Loved kayaking. Especially enjoyed trips to Sapelo and Nanny Goat Beach. The shelling was fabulous and the dogs loved swimming. Special thanks to David & Mary Ann for all their help.

Desperately in need of solitude, peace and quiet, we came to get much needed rest. It was wonderful. Thank you.
Saw the eagles, dolphin, kingfishers, osprey & all the other usual coastal birds.
Enjoyed fishing never did catch one of these giants that surface time & again. Got some sea trout, catfish, a very determined crab, one ray, and the"fartin' flo's" -- those tiny little jumpers that sound like they're passing gas when they're out of the H2O. Had a lot of fun.
Appreciate the privacy.

Dear Andy,
WOW--what a truly beautiful and exceptional piece of paradise. We had a great time seeing dolphins and Mr. & Mrs. Eagle. And, Miller should pay you a huge endorsement fee because it's indescribable how great the beer tastes on your dock!
We loved the crabs and caught a delicious sea trout and several croaker. We can't wait to return.

Andy,
What a little slice of heaven you have here at Eagle Island and the surrounding coastal area! I am thankful to have had the opportunity to share with my family my love and memories of the Georgia coast. We look forward to making this trip a part of our Family Tradition!!!
We crabbed and feasted daily on Low Country boils and relaxed at night listening to frogs and watching the opening of the 2008 Olympics in China. I'm sure we have imprinted some long time memories for all three of our children!
We had a wonderful time beachcombing on Sapelo Island, and Marlin in particular was impressed that you had a skim board at his disposal.☺
We all hope in the near future we can return the hospitality for you and your family in Jensen Beach at River Palm!!!
Another slice of heaven we have discovered on the Georgia Coast:
Walters Caviar & Seafood - contact Bertha at (912) 437-6560. The best local Sturgeon Caviar and she will meet you at a moment's notice - a short walk east of the Darien bridge.
Thank You!

Andy,
Becky and I had the most phenomenal time here on the island! During the week we have seen osprey, dolphin, longnose gar fish, feral pigs not to mention the numerous fish and crab we caught.
This is a fabulous oasis of wildlife and we have enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks for all the hospitality. We look forward to coming back.
Sincerely,

Thank you Captain Andy & First Mate Shannon for providing such a wonderful, private vacation spot. On a wildlife note, we saw a group of dolphins swimming in the river right by the dock. We had a wonderful time and plan on coming back.

Yesterday, the 19th, was our 20 year wedding anniversary. I have been thinking & searching for that "something really special" for our 20 year anniversary . We chose an Alaskan cruise for our 10 year anniversary and a Caribbean cruise for our 15th. I told my husband months back I would like to find a private island to ourselves. He assured me I was fantasizing! Little did I know, his best friend did our homework and found Eagle Island--just exactly what I was fantasizing about!
I consider this past week a true blessing from above. We have had a week to reconnect and draw closer to, first of all our God in heaven, and each other. To really realize just what a blessing from above, to have our precious sight (eye) and hearing. Without these senses we could not receive the full benefits the island offers. We will carry this experience to our graves, as the BEST ANNIVERSARY yet!
Wildlife observations: various birds, including some type of large bird tending to the eagles' nest. More than one time we saw it bringing moss into the nest; a couple of rabbits around the pond, dolphins, frogs, crabs (which we trapped and cooked). One day I heard a racket on the porch and went to investigate. It was a snake (very young) trying to get through the cracks of wood to a bird (dove) underneath. She was flapping her wings and having a fit! So I chased the little guy off the porch where he didn't belong. I had a short-tailed rat run in front of me on the way to the dock.
Last but definitely not least, Sapelo Island. A private beach at your fingertips! It was 4 awesome days on Nanny Goat beach! We can't thank Andy enough for his patience with us the Saturday we arrived. Our boat was acting up during our tour but Andy & David were so helpful & considerate.
P.S. The boat did better the rest of the week. It just needed the cob webs run out of it!
Thanks again for everything,
Robbie & Tracy

Our week on Eagle Island is just about over. What a wonderful week it has been! Nine of us came to the island in city mode, within a day the breeze, the silence, the nature and the overall calm washed over us all. We had all forgotten what it was like to just sit and take in the world around us. This is the perfect place to shed the overwhelming trappings of everyday and get back to just enjoying each other, food, wine, and nature.
We swam & kayaked with dolphins. Dined on smoked pork, picked up beautiful shells and swam at a beach all our own at Sapelo Island. This trip has been more than any of us could have ever asked for. Thank you for creating this magical place and allowing us to share in its beauty.

Dear Andy,
We can't express enough to you how privileged we feel to have had the experience of staying on Eagle Island. The reason for our stay was to be truly alone together, away from the intrusions of the world. We were both exhausted and needed time to recharge.
The quiet beauty of the island is amazing. The sounds of nature--especially the rustling of marsh grass--were very relaxing. We spent a lot of time watching the eagles and listening to them "talk to each other." We had our binoculars, but often the eagles were so close, we didn't need them.
The house was elegant and charming with all the amenities one could ask for. I was initially concerned it would feel too large for just two people--but it had a warm, cozy ambiance. We agree it was the most romantic time we have had in our 27 years of marriage.
The fireplace was beautiful and as we told you, we intend to have one just like it built in our home. Sitting in the Jacuzzi on the porch watching the sunset, listening to music from the stereo, in front of the outdoor fireplace--my husband remarked that "this is just a little piece of heaven."
We will have to come back for one more stay before we actually move to Darien. Next time we will come when it is a little warmer so we can do a little boating.
We certainly enjoyed meeting and talking with you. I apologize that it took so long to get all this to you. Look forward to seeing you again on our next visit.

Dear Andy,
This was the best getaway weekend I have ever had. Eagle Island is so secluded and peaceful that I felt so relaxed the whole weekend. I hated to leave, but plan to definitely come back in the future! Now I know how to turn on the water as good as you probably. After a couple of times to the pump house in the dark, Laverne and I figured out just what valve to turn to make the water flow freely. We felt very useful!!
Thanks for sharing your little piece of heaven with our group. It made all the difference in the world.
Sincerely,
Jane
P.S. Fernando was a "trip." He thought we were quite comical I think. He was a big help loading and unloading!

Andy,
We arrived a group of seven exhausted & stressed out elementary school teachers & left relaxed & restored. What a great weekend with nothing to do but talk, read, walk the woods & sit by the fire. No agenda, no clock, no deadlines.
Thanks for the boil--it was great. We loved Fernando!

This has been one of the best Christmas vacations ever for our family. As a present to her family, our mother, Kaye, found us all an island get-a-way. No one could have predicted that our time on Eagle Island would become one of our best memories.
Having spent a full week on the island allowed us to spend hours watching the Eagles. We were able to see one of the babies wait atop a tree for his parents to return.
Mornings found our family on the dock watching spectacular sunrises while we cast our lines, dropped in crab traps and stood in awe as dolphins passed by. Days were spent exploring the island, laying in the hammock, soaking in the hot tub, and enjoying one another's company. We took a trip to Mayhall where we were amazed at Andy's creativity. We walked through the island and took a stroll along the boardwalk to Mayhall's sister island. We all talked about how beautiful Mayhall will be and hope to again see it one day.
Throughout the week friends and family have come and gone. We were able to enjoy a low country boil complete with freshly caught blue crabs.
Our Christmas was unique with our decorating a downed holly tree that we decorated with fishing lures! Talk about a red-neck Christmas!
As we prepare ourselves to face the "real" world we will take with us the wonderful life-long memories of our stay at Eagle Island.
Thank you Andy for opening your beautiful home so that families, like ours, are able to enjoy. We are all planning our return and are anxious to tell others of our amazing stay.

Dear Mr. Hill,
Thank you so much for your help and generosity during our stay on the island. All of the children had a great time fishing and crabbing, and they loved seeing the gators and dolphins! We also appreciate you taking the time to take us to Sapelo. We loved Nanny Goat Beach! I think we went to the other beach though.
We have all truly enjoyed experiencing nature in such a beautiful location.

This has truly been the best vacation spot we have ever visited. Each one of us, young and old, was able to find exactly what we needed for fun and relaxation. The beauty of the island and the surrounding areas is awe inspiring. The wildlife was also exceptional. Though we did not see the eagles, we did see plenty of others. The best had to be kayaking with the dolphins blowing next to us. I'm not sure if we were following them, or they were following us! Each day was a wonderful adventure and will make a fantastic collection of memories to be documented. We will be sure to send you a copy. Thank you both, Andy and Shannon, for sharing your vision and your knowledge of the area as well as for your unsurpassed generosity and anticipation of our needs. We hope to return soon.
God Bless,

Dear Captain Andy,
As the morning sunshine casts golden rays over the distant horizon, the earth begins to wake from a gentle slumber. To hear the croaking of frogs in the marsh, the sweet morning call of birds in the trees, and gentle splash of water by fish in the pond is a harmonious melody comparable only to the angels in heaven. How rewarding it is to watch a mighty pelican take off, focused on nothing but hunting for its offspring, or a tiny lizard silently waiting for a tasty bug. So much of nature is overlooked in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and we become consumed by politics, religion, and the economy. We simply lose sight with what truly matters in life. My dearest Andy, your genuine hospitality has led us to this magical island, wherein we have traveled to all corners of such a serene and beautiful land. These islands have stood strong and defiant in phases of war, reconstruction, and progressing civilizations. It is remarkable that a simple boat trip down the Darien River can take you back to a world of truly virgin lands and wildlife, untouched by man and his destructive path of technological advances. If you sit back and listen closely and let the salty breeze cascade over your face, you can hear the melancholy song of the slaves cultivating crops of long ago; you can hear a stern captain on board a shrimp boat calling orders to his lieutenant, and you might be lucky to hear Spalding himself talking about his vision for Sapelo. There is nothing that can be said to convey our gratitude for the chance to experience these precious moments over the past two weeks. They won't be forgotten. May God bless your family and grant you fair winds and following seas, mi amigo... muchas gracias. Until next time...
Yours truly,

Our day on Sapelo Island is one that we will never forget. The four of us agree that Nanny Goat Beach is as good as it gets. Casting our nets in the tidal pool yielded goatfish, mullet, croakers, mud minnows and a sand shark.
The Bronco ride to George and Lula's (including a wrong turn or two) far surpassed anything Disney has attempted to recreate. (Hat tip to Andy for the keys to his ride and for turning us on to George's ribs). Let's hope that Hog Hammock remains the undiscovered and unspoiled paradise that it is today.
At this moment, Tropical Storm Barry is howling all around us, soaking the northern and eastern porches. The winds are gusting 35-45 and the rain is pelting the tin roof sideways.
The men, soaking wet, just returned from checking the crab pots and looking like deckhands from an episode of "The Deadliest Catch." Andy will be proud to know that we still have power and (knock on wood) satellite. The property is flooded and the rain is relentless. It's quite a spectacle.
This place is truly a treasure a thing of beauty and we are privileged to have had this experience.

Andy, Shannon & Amelia,
Thank you all for a wonderful honeymoon! Debbie and I had the most relaxing few days enjoying the privacy and solitude. We hung out with the dolphins on the rivers and fed the alligator and even saw a bald eagle near the eagles' nest. We took the boat over to Sapelo Nanny Goat Beach - and had the most beautiful beach in the world all to ourselves the entire day. Perfect day that ended with watching the fire roar from the hot tub. This place is a little piece of heaven!
Thank you all so much!

Thank you for making our Easter break so relaxing and enjoyable! It has always been difficult to find a suitable place that is private and peaceful. We will never forget your generosity and care in supplying for us your own personal boat after ours failed to operate. Thank you much! It was fabulous to spend the first several days of our honeymoon here! The privacy & relaxation were just what we were looking for, and the hot tub in front of the fireplace topped it all off.
Watching the eagles especially watching the little one learning to soar... alligators, armadillos, crabbing, fishing, exploring Mayhall... We had a great time!
Thanks for your hospitality & the top-notch accommodations! We'd love to return…

Thank you so much for a lovely week-end. Eagle Island is a great place for a family retreat. We all had a great time. We saw the eagle, the raccoon came visiting. Andy,
Words cannot even describe our stay here, but I will tell you this, serenity & peace describe somewhat what it is like out here! My boys had an awesome time playing ping-pong & going on the trail & fishing off the dock! "Big Bubba" was not caught but he is out there. We snagged him a couple of times, but he got away!! So future guests catch him for me!!!!
My mother and my friend's mother relaxed and truly enjoyed the hot tub and just being able to sit and watch the Eagles soar was awesome to all of us. We saw the Eagles many, many times and each time was more awesome than the first. I would like to share this with you. I had been very sick recently and was in the hospital & home for 3 months and this trip was a blessing for me, it gave me so much appreciation for life and the beauty in nature!! I will never forget the serenity & peace I felt here and how tranquil it was. An untouched part of God's land that you can escape from the real world and all the noise & hustle & bustle of this thing we call life!! I connected with my boys and we laughed & fished & made s'mores and roasted marshmallows and even had strawberry daiquiri (virgin) slushies!!!! We had crabs, ate your wonderful dishes you prepared and watched movies and stayed up late and got up early! The boys saw a wild boar and baby ones, we saw an alligator also!! Thank you so much for allowing us to share this wonderful place and for giving me such precious memories with my sons & my mother and my friends!! Memories were made here that will never be forgotten!!! God truly blessed you with a wonderful place to share with others! May God continue to bless you with the Gift to Bless others! We will definitely share this with others also!!
Thank you from all of us!!!

Andy,
Thanks so much for sharing your special place with us. Eagle Island is truly heaven on earth. Everything here is absolutely spectacular. From the sunrises to the sunsets & the full moon rising over the marsh, what amazing sights. The serenity here is perfect to unwind & relax. The house is truly one of a kind. We loved the screen porch & enjoyed breakfast outside each morning. The hot tub is wonderful. It was the most relaxing time we have ever had.
Tracy enjoyed fishing on the dock. We had blue crabs galore, cat fish & he even caught a red fish. We had a seafood feast Saturday night.
We both fell in love with your little piece of paradise.
The eagles greeted us the first day. We were able to watch them up in the trees & they even came down to the pond to drink water. They are truly amazing to watch. Tracy watched them cuddle on the top branch of the dead tree in front of their nest. We saw them every day we were here.
We saw a couple of good-sized alligators, 2 hawks, a huge buzzard, a rabbit, heard the bull frogs in the pond, and the family of boars stopped by Sunday morning down by the front steps.
Thanks again for you hospitality. It was an amazing weekend. We look forward to the next trip.

We the staff of Morning Star Academy had such an awesome time. Words cannot describe the experience that we shared these past two days. Our group had the opportunity to bond and recognize the special personalities that their fellow staff members possess. This trip has truly been pleasurable. We can go on for days and days describing what happened here, but there wouldn't be any pages left to write on. The view was breathtaking, the Jacuzzi was immaculate and the home itself incredible.

Dear Andy,
Morning breaks golden here at Eagle Island, reminding us of the timelessness and promise of God's creation. The dusting of light over the marshes & trees prompts the birds' awakening, resulting in a symphony of song echoing through the sentinel pines. My heart takes wing with a heron's flight, already intent on the day's hunt.
Thank you for allowing us to cast off the treadmill-busyness of the world and share in your Eden a place of respite, recognition, and renewal.
The hospitality afforded by you, Andy, and lovely Shannon was both genuine & extraordinary. Bless you for allowing us to experience this treasure hidden away on the Georgia coast.

Andy & Shannon,
Andy's vision for Eagle Island has created an oasis in an ever-more cruel world, a place to reflect on life, to fellowship, to feel the touch of the natural world, to explore, and to begin sensing the rhythms of nature. You must stop and listen quietly to shake-off the drum-beat of civilization and transition back through the ages to hear the shouts of the raftmen as they guided their knotted logs through the many river channels to the sawmills in and around Darien. To hear the captains of the great masted ships as they bark orders in loading their ships with logs and sawn lumber for the uncertain voyages to European ports. The lands and marshes that you see now belie their thriving pasts back into the 1700's when lumber; cotton and rice were the commodities of trade that brought prosperity and happiness to townsfolk and islanders. This region was spawned from Spanish land grants for the creation of plantations; commercial ventures to harvest the mighty live oaks, the yellow pine from the longleafs. And the ancient bald cypress. But now, it is difficult to believe that these enterprises ever existed, the voices of the raftman, the captains, the slaves and the overseers have faded into the dust of the past. Most importantly for us today is to be the recipients of these beautiful lands, marshes and waters. A gift from enlightened men in the government of Georgia and from men like Andy Hill who possessed the instincts of stewardship born out of his love for the vitality, serenity and diversity of this place and time. We thank you Andy for your vision, for your labor and for your resources that have transformed this small island into its remarkable and welcoming ambiance. Your genius, sense of hospitality and generosity is beautifully displayed on this treasure of an island.

We couldn't have had a better time. Since it was just Chere & I, it was like staying in the world's nicest & biggest hotel room with a panoramic view of nature at its BEST! We can't thank you enough for your wonderful hospitality. "Guest Services" is all it's said to be and more.
We both had had such stressful weeks that it was a perfect time to get away and just "veg". 20 minutes in the hot tub in front of that cozy fire and we were just GOO. We hope to see you two again soon.
Thanks again,

Andy,
It's almost impossible to find the words to describe our amazing adventure on your beautiful island. Your warm hospitality and attention to detail made our stay exceed our every expectation. We are taking home with us so many memories that we will cherish and share and "embellish" for years to come. The beautiful sights surrounding us, the eagles soaring in & out, the trek around the island, sitting on the dock, the bullfrog croaking as we sat by the fire pit, the fire crackling as we soaked in the Jacuzzi; the great ping-pong competition, watching the sun set…the perfect setting for us to share love and laughter that never stopped the entire time we were here. Your generosity provided us one of the most special times we have ever shared - you will always be a part of this special time we had here.

Oh my! What a wonderful place! We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. The hot tub we used a few times, it was sooo relaxing. The swings out on the deck are a nice touch to enjoy the outdoors. We think we saw an eagle flying around in the trees. We never saw it land in its nest, though. The accommodations here are more than anyone could ask for! We had fun playing ping-pong down in the playroom. J
Andy, thank you for everything! You made our stay very comfortable & fun! We enjoyed our trip to Sapelo Island & learning some of the local history there. And all the shells & sand dollars we found will really impress the kids (Blake 9, Clay 4).
The low-country boil was delicious & we ate off of it all weekend!

We are so appreciative of such amazing serenity and natural beauty. This house is awesome and the day at Sapelo was very special for us. Stan worked extremely hard there once upon a time it was such a treat to go back just for fun!
Now that I have personally experienced this amazing spot, I can be a shameless promoter. You will have rentals galore!
Thanks again,
Come see us in Madison--
